The winter can bring a whole host of issues for hair, not least the dreaded hat-hair! We spend hours taming our tresses, reluctantly clutch at a hat, step out into the icy air and only the hardy are left standing with beautiful hair, the rest of us get to work and have to suffer hat-hair for the rest of day!
The drastic changes of temperature coming in from the cold or vice versa can have a devastating effect on hair health. Central heating can be dehydrating for hair, so remember to wash hair with hot water to open up the cuticle layer then use hydrating shampoos, treatments and conditioners and seal the cuticles back down with a cool rinse at the end to finish the process.
Central heating will also generate a lot of static and frizz! Great! One way to reduce the dryness of the air would be to put a bowl of hot water next to radiators in the rooms where you spend most of your time. You might also find this helps your skin too! If this is not practical (kids and animals scenario) then it’s worth purchasing a humidifier which does the job in a neatly packaged way. And there are some great anti-static/frizz product ranges.
Volume boosting products will add vitality and life to winter hair, but you are advised to stick with one brand – don’t mix up your system!
