Errol Douglas yesterday (February 13)
attended a ceremony at Buckingham Palace to receive an MBE for services
to hairdressing. Also collecting awards were sports commentator Des Lynham
and actor Roy Dotrice. The top stylist, whose Knightsbridge salon
celebrates its 10th birthday this year, is among the cream of the
hairdressing industry, and at just 43 years old has already won or been
nominated for several of the world’s most coveted hairdressing awards.
Says Errol: “It’s an amazing honour to be awarded the MBE, but I've received it
for my industry, not for me personally. It gives inspiration to young
hairdressers who want to get into the profession, and it furthers what I’m
doing in my industry to raise its profile as a fantastic profession to work in.
For me, it’s all about education, passing on what I know to the people I train,
and helping young people to achieve their hairdressing career dreams. The whole
day was quite surreal, but absolutely brilliant!”
Errol’s more famous clients include
the likes of Uma Thurman, Christina Ricci and Naomi Campbell. He has
appeared on a host of TV programmes, including GMTV, This Morning, Good
Morning, Model Behaviour, 10 Years Younger, Queer Eye for a Straight Guy, and
many more.
Errol joins industry peers Trevor
Sorbie, Charles Worthington, and Nicky Clarke who have all been awarded the
honour. Errol is spokesperson for professional products company Matrix, for
whom he regularly runs education seminars and shows both in the UK and abroad.
Renowned for his stunning photographic work, Errol has been nominated for
and won numerous awards and accolades.
The Errol Douglas salon is hailed as
a fusion of European and Afro styling, and the salon’s innovative initiatives
include services such as a nail technician, in-house catering service
(serving everything from healthy food to delicious smoothies), express packages
for swift styling (blow dry and manicure in 30 minutes) and more. With the 10th
birthday comes the introduction of a fabulous new hair treatments area – watch
