Earlier this year, Trevor Sorbie was honoured with one of the highest professional awards reserved for "persons of distinction" who have made outstanding achievements in their field. Sorbie, a former City & Guilds student, donned his graduation gown to collect his City & Guilds' Fellowship at the awarding body's annual meeting held in March.

Sorbie is the first hair stylist to be bestowed with the highest accolade from City & Guilds, the UK's leading vocational awarding body. He joins a long list of famous fellows including David Bailey, Lord Puttnam, Alan Titchmarsh, Sir John Harvey Jones, and the Rt Hon John Major.
Truly
inspirational
David Young, Chairman of City
& Guilds confirmed that the awarding body was proud to recognise Sorbie for
his distinguished career as a world-leading hair stylist. "Trevor Sorbie has
firmly placed British hairdressing on the global map and is a true inspiration
to many thousands of hairdressers. He continually pushes forward the boundaries
and combines original thinking with superb technical ability. "
“He continually pushes forward the boundaries…” said David Young, Chairman of City & Guilds
At 30, Sorbie became one of the youngest stylists to open up his own salon in Covent Garden and has continued to go from strength to strength, winning the highly coveted British Hairdresser of the Year title an unrivalled four times.
He has pioneered world-famous cuts and styling techniques such as The Wedge, The Chop and The Scrunch and was the first person to introduce professional haircare products for the high street in 1986.
So proud
Welcoming the award, Sorbie said he was “honoured”, and added "To
receive the City & Guilds' Fellowship award is the culmination of 40 years
work in the hairdressing industry. I only wish that the teacher who said I was
good for nothing could see me now. And, my mother would have been so
proud."
