Tara Smith does hair for film, Mr Brooks
A-list stylist Tara Smith reveals the techniques she used on Demi Moore’s hair during the shooting of new film, Mr Brooks.
“Shooting in Louisiana in over 100 degrees of heat isn’t the ideal scenario for great hair, so I had to use some tricks to keep Demi’s hair looking gorgeous,” says Tara. “Firstly, I blow dried the hair with a Daniel Hersheson ceramic barrel brush (though any good ceramic barrel brush will work), which holds heat inside for lasting staying power. I dried the hair section by section with a Tourmaline hairdryer using Nioxin’s volumizing root lifter. The top section of hair (the halo-like, u-shaped section at the top of the head) was pulled forward and blow-dried in the opposite direction to where it’s going to lie to give extra root lift. I then used a serum from my own product line which is currently in development on the ends, again any good serum will work. You don’t need to be in a hot country for these tips to work though – if you do the groundwork like this you’ll have hot-to-trot hair even if you hit the dance-floor all night!”
Tara, splitting her time between LA and London, has been stylist of choice to a whole host of stars including Angelina Jolie, Orlando Bloom, and Anna Friel, to name a few!
This week (October 12) sees the UK release of Mr Brooks, a psychological crime thriller starring Demi Moore alongside Kevin Costner, on which Tara worked as personal hairstylist to Demi.
She also worked on Quentin Tarantino’s latest film which was released in the UL last week, Death Proof, on which Tara headed up the hair department. Among her charges were the gorgeous Rosario Dawson, Rose McGowan, and Zoe Bell, as well as Kurt Russell and Quentin himself.
